Additional Information

Afrodite House is a renovated traditional Santorini home, a few of which can still be found in Megalochori village. The beautiful organic shape and proportions of the smooth walls, vaulted ceilings and arched openings tell the story of the house and how it was constructed by carving into the soft pumice stone earth of the village hills.
The renovation of the house was approached with sensitivity and a reverence for the historical value of the village home. The local materials, colors and landscaping take their cues from the traditional Santorini houses, echoing the shapes and colors of the island’s unique architecture.
Another notable feature of the house is its natural ambient interior temperature. The natural insulation of the earthen walls of the space regulated the temperature of the house, keeping the interior warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Today, this natural insulation continues to be an advantage, maintaining a constantly cool interior environment, even on the hottest summer days.
