This beautifully restored, traditional two-storey Mansion dating back to 17th Century offers a luxury escape to those seeking to experience the pace and charm of life on Santorini away from the jostling summer crowds found in Fira and Oia. The property is two minute stroll from the village square with its few infamous tavernas along a winding road with cream and white washed walls and bright fuschia flowers.
Outside guests can enjoy the privacy of the walled courtyard, relax by the swimming pool, soak up the sun on the hammock, or retire upstairs to the roof-top terraces providing diners with panoramic views over the rooftops and views of the vineyards, where wine tasting excursions can be arranged.
Inside the smooth curved walls, feature alcoves displaying carefully chosen objects, are brought to life by a blend of intense natural light and mood-lighting. The architect designed minimalist interior décor with fine antique pieces helps to create a unique atmosphere and living space.
Perhaps it is no coincidence that the property was once owned by one of the most powerful families on the island.
Perfect for large families, wedding parties, a group of friends, or perhaps two families that require independent living space without compromising privacy and comfort.
Rustic terracotta kitchen
At the turn of the century, the first floor would have been occupied by the family with the ground floor serving as the winery and cellar. The Vinsanto dessert wine produced was exported to Russia, where it was used by the Russian Orthodox Church for Holy Communion. Unfortunately, this all came to an end with the Russian Revolution which had a big impact on the wealth of families in this once flourishing village.
The original structure has been sensitively renovated. Restored to its original splendor, retaining the original layout and traditional features, the gracious proportions and weathered building materials speak for themselves!
The ground floor once served as the 'canava' - wine cellar and workshop - of the Mansion. The cylindrical troughs sunk into the ground, once used for distilling the Vinsanto, provides unusual lighting features to the interior. Three large barn-style doors lead from the cobbled courtyard into the various living areas. The smooth-edged carved interior provides a cool and relaxing haven during the hot summer days. The well equipped traditional-style central kitchen leads into the beautifully lit dining room, perfect for leisurely meals with friends and family. Arched doorways on either side of the kitchen allows for an easy flow through the house.
